SUBJECTS

BALLET

AETA19-3995.jpg

This classical style of expressive movement has something to offer for everyone. Although the origins of Ballet date back to seventeenth century France, the age old traditional and conventional steps provide us with grace and fluidity of movement that is still relevant in today's syllabus. We believe that Ballet technique and the artistry found within it, is the foundation of all dance styles.

TAP

AETA19-1755.jpg

Tap is rhythm and rhythm is tap! Many countries lay claim to its origins- from America and its jazz age to Britain and northern clog dancing. But whichever one you choose to believe, evergreen shows like 42nd Street and more recently Tap Dogs highlight the great diversity of style and music that tap has to offer.

FREESTYLE/ MODERN

This dance form involves runs, spins, kicks and leaps as well as a combination of more diverse steps and movement from other Freestyle dance genre i.e street dance. The use of popular music allows dancers to use freedom of expression to enhance their chosen style

MUSICAL THEATRE

A fun syllabus that is a fusion of music, singing, dance and acting that is inspirational in building team work and interaction within the class structure.

THEATRE CRAFT

This is a dance form especially designed for theatrical performance. It enhances the dancer physically through exercise and stimulates artistic ability through movement, improvisation and the interpretation of music.

ACROBATICS

The structure of this syllabus contains all the essential attributes needed for the development of an all round dancer, i.e. agility, flexibility, stamina and strength. Lift work also builds team work and teaches respect and responsibility for other members of the class.

PERFORMANCES & EXAMINATIONS

Production show

Our annual showcase takes place at Counterthorpe College. Both the rehearsals & performances involve lots of support from parents & hard work from pupils. But, year after year, the show proves to be the entertaining highlight of the year. Alongside our annual show, pupils of the School are given the chance to be involved in a wide range of extra-curricular events. These range from appearing in pantomime, to charity events such as the Loros fashion show and the Children in need Tapathon. Experience gained from these activities is invaluable to pupils as well as raising money for some very worthwhile causes.

Examinations

Pupils of The Anne-Elizabeth Theatre Arts are entered into the International Dance Teachers Association (I.D.T.A) examinations.

The IDTA is an awarding organisation recognised by Ofqual to offer qualifications in the Qualifications and Credit Framework.

The Association's grade and vocational graded examinations have been accepted as regulated qualifications.

Running alongside the I.D.T.A exams, we have our own school annual end of term medal/trophy session, performed to an audience of family and friends. This less formal session is used to encourage the pupils to perform their class and syllabus work more confidently.
